1. Academy Street by Mary Costello
The story of Tess, oh dear it's depressing!
2. The President's Hat by Antoine's Laurain
This is a really lovely quirky wee book as the president's hat passes through several people's lives.
3. The Mussel Feast by Birgit Vanderbeke
A riveting read which left me wondering what would happen next.
4. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
An epic tale - fascinating but at times difficult to believe in.
5. Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey
Beautifully written but heartbreaking.
6. The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
Excellent and very funny.
7. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Very dark, good story, but a bit stilted.
8. The Girl with all the Gifts by M.R. Carey
An intriguing and excellent start but ultimately just another zombie road trip.
9. The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty
Hmmm. Quite interesting but not quite believable.
10. The Letter by Kathryn Hughes
An ok read but very predictable .
11. The Martian by Andy Weir
Very well written - crying out to be made into a blockbuster film!
12. The Chimp Paradox by Prof Steve Peters
Absolute piffle.
13. Not that kind of Girl by Lena Dunham
Interesting in parts but she needs to grow up a bit more!
14. The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North
Absolutely Brilliant!
15. Wild: A Journey from Lost to Found by Cheryl Strayed
A good and thought provoking read.
16. The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton
Evokes Amsterdam of yesteryear beautifully but oh dear how depressing.
17. The Rosie Effect: Don Tillman 2 by Graeme Simsion
Not quite as good as the first one but still fun.
18. The Bees by Laline Paul
I wouldn't have expected to like this but in fact it's very good.
19. The Children Act by Ian McEwan
McEwan really is a brilliant writer.
20. The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton
Set in New Zealand in the 19th century, intriguing.
21. The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters
A lesbian version of Crime and Punishment. Quite good.
22. All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews
A story of two sisters - very moving.
23. The Humans but Matt Haig
Mork meets The Terminator. Quite fun but ultimately very schmaltzy.
24. The C-Word by Lisa Lynch
What an amazing woman.
25. The Lie by C.L. Taylor
Hmm ok - a good story but written in a kind of stilted way.
26. I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh
So sad. And well written with an interesting twist.
27. The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle by Kirsty Wark
It took a while to warm up, but I enjoyed this split time story of two women.
28. Do No Harm: Stories of Life, Death and Brain Surgery by Henry Marsh
Excellent memoir. I have recommended it to Jamie.
29. The Woman Who Stole my Life by Marian Keyes
Chick lit but well written and good fun.
30. Us by David Nicholls
Good stuff but am I the only one who thought he was well rid of his priggish wife?!
31. On the Move: A Life by Oliver Sacks
I didn't know anything about Oliver Sacks before, apart from that he is a psychologist who wrote Awakenings - this is a very interesting auto biography.
32. The Iceberg: A memoir by Marion Coutts
This was extremely well written and very moving.
33. I feel bad about my neck by Nora Ephron
This is a series of anecdotes / articles - I warmed to it as I went along, she has a nice relaxed style.
34. Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fisher
This is based on a one woman stage show that she performed - very engaging.
35. A Man called Ove by Fredrik Backman
A quirky but moving Swedish novel
36. Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig
This is about Matt Haig's struggle with depression. Good stuff.
37. I remember nothing by Nora Ephron
Another book of anecdotes, well written.
38. Follow You Home by Mark Edwards
A run of the mill thriller.
39. Kay Scarpetta (Scarpetta 16) by Patricia Cornwell
Ho hum, yet another Scarpetta book.
