After a delightful breakfast on the patio and a morning at the pool we all went into Eymet for lunch. We went to a little creperie in the main square where we had some excellent galettes. The medieval town centre is very beautiful, we visited it two years ago as well. Back at the house we packed up and said our goodbyes to Russ, then Jennifer gave us a lift to Marmande where we said goodbye to her and caught a train into Bordeaux. Jenn and Russ will be leaving France tomorrow after six weeks of holiday, however we’re staying in Bordeaux for a few more days. We had planned lots of day trips but it’s so hot that I think we will need to choose carefully and perhaps have shorter trips. This heat wave is called a “Canicule” in France. La canicule is the French for a heatwave; Cani comes from the Latin for dog, so it is actually similar to the old phrase “dog days of summer.” Apparently this is because the arrival in the night sky of Canis Major, the Dog Star, often heralded hot weather. We checked into our hotel and had dinner before watching the England vs Argentina football World Cup semi-final on television. England scored a goal but Argentina (who seemed to be playing a bit rough!) then scored two goals and soon it was all over; we felt really sorry that England lost.
