We have had a lovely Christmas Day. Ally, Davie and Chanel opened their stockings from Santa in the lounge and seemed delighted by their contents. Jamie and Kerry FaceTimed us from New Zealand, it was great to see them; it was late at night for them and their Christmas Day was almost over. Forrest, Marjory, Jenny, Neil and Lucy came round at about 11 a.m. and there was much chat and exchanging of thoughtful gifts. We had Champagne (elderflower and raspberry pressé for me) and snacks.
The turkey had gone into the oven at 9.45 a.m. and it was ready by 2.45 p.m. and then rested until we had Christmas dinner after the King’s Speech. The meal went really well. Tom watched James carving the turkey very intently and then sat on a chair beside the table staring at James eating the turkey. He did get some scraps to eat, it would have been rude not to give him any when he waited so politely. It’s strange that Floof isn’t interested in our food at all.
One of Ally and Cat’s presents to Davie and Chanel was Race Across the World and we played it in the evening; it was good fun, I do enjoy board games. Davie and Chanel gave Ally and Cat a couple of miniature remote controlled tanks and Ally was very taken with them; he used them to chase Flora (slowly!) around the room. Flora loved this and avoided them, also slowly, while staring at them in fascination.
Later we all played Maponimoes, the Asia & Australia version, which was good fun. My geography of the East is terrible.
Much later, when we had room in our tummies after our feast, we ate James’ trifle. It was very tasty but the custard was too thick which was my fault, I had wanted it to set well but I overdid it. This flaw didn’t stop us eating it up and enjoying it! It was an excellent day.
